Low Tire Pressure? – What Finally Worked for My Jeep Cherokee

Every winter, without fail, it happens.
That little tire pressure light turns on.
Usually, it shows up early in the morning when it is freezing outside and I am barely awake. Then there it is, glowing on my dashboard like it is personally offended by the cold weather.
If this has happened to you too, then you probably know the feeling. It is frustrating, especially when you are already trying to get out the door.
Why Tire Pressure Drops in Cold Weather
Cold air contracts, so when the temperature drops, the air inside your tires shrinks too. As a result, the tire pressure goes down.
In fact, even a small drop in temperature can make a difference. That is why the tire pressure light often comes on during winter. Although it is normal, it is still inconvenient.
The First Air Inflator We Bought
A while back, we bought an air inflator from Costco. Honestly, I cannot remember the brand now.
At first, it seemed fine. It sat in the garage for a long time before we ever needed it. When we finally used it, it worked, so we thought it would be helpful to keep around.
However, winter came again, and so did my low tire pressure problem.
This time, my husband took that same inflator out to use it again. Unfortunately, it gave him a hard time. It struggled, acted up, and then suddenly stopped working.
Just like that, it was dead.
Later on, my husband looked it up online and found that other people had the same complaint. So apparently, we were not the only ones frustrated with it.
At that point, he did not even bother returning it. Instead, it went straight into the trash.
The Gas Station Plan Did Not Work Either
That same day, we decided to drive to the gas station near our house. We thought that would be the easy solution.
Unfortunately, it was not.
The air pump was out of order.
By then, we were already cold, annoyed, and tired of dealing with the whole thing. So instead of wasting more time trying another gas station, we drove straight to Home Depot.
What Finally Worked for My Jeep Cherokee

That’s when we picked up the Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless High Pressure Inflator.
We chose it for a few simple reasons. First, it is cordless. Second, it is portable. It also works with the Ryobi 18V ONE+ battery system. On top of that, it looked sturdy and easy to use.
Most importantly, it actually worked.
My husband attached it to the tire, set the PSI, and pressed the button. Within about 10 seconds, it was done.
There was no struggling, no overheating, and no sudden shutdown. Instead, it simply did what we needed it to do.
What I Learned From This Whole Experience
After all of that, I realized that not all air inflators are created equal. Some may work once, but that does not mean they will hold up when you really need them.
I also learned that winter always seems to test your tire pressure at the worst possible time. Because of that, having a reliable inflator at home makes a huge difference.
Now, when my tire pressure light comes on, I do not panic. I do not dread driving to the gas station either. Instead, we grab the Ryobi, fill the tires in the driveway, and finish the job in minutes.
During winter, that kind of convenience feels like a big win.
